Yes it was definitely worth it, since well you nailed it with the sweet, detailed texture in the fur and the realism in the eyes and the rest of the face! I don't know why cats are hard to draw, maybe it's because they are just too perfect. With eyes and ears the exact same size and a cute tiny nose and whiskers placed precisely on little dots. They definitely are different from the imperfect faces of humans, with almost anyone you can find a flaw which is not a bad thing, have you ever tried drawing a person? If not you should, since you are definitely talented enough.
Oh come on with how you understand contrast, shading and lighting I think you'll do more than fine, and if you don't you can always try again and again, but really I extremely doubt that you could draw anything badly. And look at it this way too there's only facial hair with people instead of tiresome whiskers, man I could never get that right or fur for that matter.
